CNN Guest Accidentally Roasts Tim Walz, Dana Bash Scrambles To Move On

A guest appearance on CNN took an unexpected turn this week when political commentator Peter Hamby accidentally roasted Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. During a segment hosted by Dana Bash, Hamby’s off-the-cuff remarks about Walz’s appeal to a particular demographic left viewers and Bash herself scrambling to keep the conversation on track.

Hamby, speaking about the Democrats’ struggle to resonate with young male voters, took a jab at Walz. “Donald Trump, he plays golf with Bryson DeChambeau, he goes on Theo Von, he talks about Zyns, and you know, Democrats, I’m sorry, like, they haven’t had a cool guy candidate in awhile.”

“With all due respect to Tim Walz—like, Tim Walz appeals to a lot of men, but he also appeals to that guy, Bruce, who’s just packaged; he’s wearing a “Future is Female” shirt. Uh… like, he’s wearing a “Future is Female” shirt.”

The statement seemed to catch Bash off guard as she quickly attempted to steer the conversation back to more serious matters. However, Hamby’s comment seemed to resonate with viewers.

While the comment may have been in jest, it highlighted a larger issue within the Democratic Party: its struggle to capture the attention of young male voters. Hamby’s suggestion that Walz’s appeal might be limited to a more predictable, left-leaning crowd highlighted this problem. The humorous moment did not go unnoticed by Republicans, who have frequently criticized Democratic leadership for being out of touch with certain voter groups.

In recent weeks, Walz has made attempts to uplift Harris’ image on the campaign trail, praising her despite the well-deserved criticism from Trump and his supporters. Trump has called out Harris for her out-of-touch approach, contrasting it with his own commitment to putting America first. While some Democrats try to portray Walz as a role model of masculinity for modern America, Trump supporters disagree. Walz’s white privilege rhetoric, promoting Harris and left-wing policies like unrestricted abortion, has failed to resonate with many on the voter bloc.

In August Trump made a notable appearance on comedian Theo Von’s podcast, ‘This Past Weekend.’ During the conversation, Trump, who has long been known for his teetotaling lifestyle, quizzed Von about his past cocaine use. The discussion took an unexpected turn, with Von humorously describing the effects of the drug, saying, “Cocaine will turn you into a damn owl, homie,” which had Trump intrigued and asking follow-up questions about addiction and the effects of different substances.

The episode, filmed at Trump’s Bedminster country club, quickly went viral, especially the moment when Trump, clearly fascinated, asked if cocaine was a stronger “up” than other substances. Von’s candid and often comedic answers created a lighthearted yet surreal interaction between the former president and the comedian. The conversation struck a chord with viewers. The interview gave Trump a chance to engage with a younger audience, many of whom follow Von’s podcast, while the viral nature of their back-and-forth continues to circulate across social media platforms.
