Roy Cooper, Democratic Governor of North Carolina: Kamala Harris Will Definitely Beat Donald Trump in November If She Does This

Kamala Harris ‘will be the next president’ if she flips red North Carolina blue, says state’s Dem governor

    • The state has leaned Republican but has elected Democrats statewide recently
    • The governor says that Harris has visited his state 17 times as vice president
    • Adds that he knows if Harris wins his state, ‘she is the next president of the US’

The Democrat governor of North Carolina claims that if Kamala Harris can turn his state blue, she will beat Donald Trump in November.

North Carolina has traditionally leaned red but has become more of a tossup since Barack Obama won it in 2008.

Roy Cooper, the outgoing governor, is one such example of Democrats who have won statewide and believes if Harris repeats his feat, she’ll win the presidency.

‘This was Biden-Harris’s closest loss in 2020, only 1.3%. So the fact that Kamala Harris, as Vice President of the United States, has been to North Carolina 17 times shows that she cares about our state’, he told CBS.

Cooper is term limited but his former Attorney General Josh Stein is favored to defeat Trump-endorsed Republican Mark Robinson on November 5.

However, while polls show Harris closer to Trump than Biden got four years ago, it still leans toward the former president.

Both RealClearPolitics and FiveThirtyEight’s poll averages show Trump with a lead by less than a point as of Sunday.

However, Cooper believes a Harris-Walz upset is possible after Cook Political Report declared the race a tossup.

‘When we continue to get this information out to the American public, and to people here in North Carolina, that Kamala Harris has an economic plan that’s going to help lower the cost for everyday people, that’s going to help families thrive, that is going to protect women’s reproductive freedom. I think at the end of the day, that’s going to be what works here,’ Cooper said.

Cooper also didn’t deny that he would show interest in a job with a Harris-Walz administration, only saying ‘we’ll see’ when questioned if he’d like to be considered.

Earlier this week, Democrats saw some hope in the south after polls revealed a boost in support for Kamala Harris in Georgia and North Carolina.

Harris is leading Republican rival Donald Trump by two percentage points in both states, according to the latest Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll.

The Vice President’s campaign is heavily focused on its efforts in the south with Harris frequently visiting Georgia, which President Joe Biden narrowly won in 2020, and North Carolina , which she’s still hoping to flip from Trump.

Local Democratic leaders, citing the surging enthusiasm for her candidacy, are now convinced Harris, 59, can secure the first double win in Georgia and North Carolina since Jimmy Carter in 1976, Bloomberg reported.

But the latest I&I/TIPP Poll shows that Trump maintains strength amongst voters in the major swing states, with his odds better than 50 per cent in five of them.

As it stands currently, Trump is predicted to win PennsylvaniaArizonaNevada and Georgia – all of which Democrats took in 2020 – and North Carolina. Harris maintains the lead in the ‘blue wall’ states of Michigan and Wisconsin.

Since Biden dropped his reelection bid and endorsed Harris, the vice president has focused on the so-called ‘blue wall’ states that have been the centerpiece of successful Democratic campaigns.

She’s also frequently visited Arizona, Nevada, Georgia and North Carolina.

Harris is understood to have opened up an electoral path in the traditionally Republican states of Georgia and North Carolina, which no Democrat has won together in nearly five decades.

The Harris campaign has the largest in-state operation in Georgia of any Democratic presidential campaign cycle, Bloomberg reported. It is operating 24 offices with more than 190 staff members.

Harris and Trump are set to debate for the first time on Tuesday night in Philadelphia.

The contest will be televised and hosted by ABC News but simulcast on several other networks and streaming services.
